The sound of wings

Meeting free horses with Gerhard Stephane Wattine, Rob Pliskin, Olga Platonova, Berenika Bratny, Agata Wiatrowska and…

Authentic and consistent communication

A meeting with non-verbal communication experts. Searching for cohesion at the level of emotion, thought, body and spirit.

Conscious leadership

Leadership is constant learning and drawing of conclusions. Expertise and what we know – it is not enough here. A vision is important. Questions are more important than answers. Noticing instead of knowing.

Horse-Sense means “common sense”

Delivering solution with respect to history and opening for new. Seeing connection to reality as the first step of every way.

International know-how and an original approach

We co-create an international network of facilitators. We conduct comprehensive training for facilitators.

Horse Assisted Education

HORSE ASSISTED EDUCATION is an innovative way of learning to people, which is assisted by horses. Its main goal is widely understood personal development, self-awareness, leadership, psychological and social skills as well as help in change that person strives for. The essence of this method is to create a space in which you can experience yourself in relation with horse.

During the program Horse Assisted Education we have the opportunity to learn by direct participation in the relationship. There are no signposts, proven regulations and or techniques of behavior. Each step come from accepting responsibility, courage and making own decision. Learning is multi-level, engage whole person and i takes place in real situation. The behavior of the horse is authentic and that makes is a true relationship, communication and leadership. Such experience is much different from playing man-man scenes. Exercises with horses, which Horse Assisted Education training consists of, let you discover many ways of establishing relationships, multidimensional leadership experience and to see ourselves as people who actively create the surrounding reality.

Szkolenie z przywództwa

Conception of human development Horse Assisted Education is based on rules of learning, in the way of modern education, including:

– learning by experience
– learning by independent goals setting and solution finding
– learning by increasing self-awarness, emotions and reflections.

Horse Assisted Education is more than skill training. Presence of horses and associated with this level of self-awareness, perception and sensitivity causes that developing area is integrated at the level of individuals, groups, communities and the world. Horse Assisted Education in practice allows for what theoretically I call integral currents. Multidimensional development of chosen area with regard to all perspective and not omitting any of them.

Learning by experience

Uczenie się od koni
From horses, we learn by experience. It’s the way of learning that is accompanied by us from the childhood, and that engages our whole person in learning about world or developing some skills. In contrast to the way we know from school it engages not only intellect but also intuition, consciousness flowing from the body and emotions, that consolidate what we have learned (so called phenomenon of emotional anchoring). It’s a natural way of learning social behavior and dealing with others. In similar way we learn how to walk or ride a bicycle.

In the process of such learning engaged is limbic system, or part of brain called the mammalian brain. Limbic system controls emotions and urges, typical to the given species behavior. It also contains motion memory and long term memory. Exercises with horses strongly engage and activate limbic system, calming down signals from cerebral cortex. Thank to this process unconscious competences and skills are unleashed, and those gained earlier are not forgotten. In this form of learning environment the process is very important. There is need for sense of security, atmosphere of openness and space for experimentation. In this way of learning there is no such words as “good” or “bad”, there is no “showing off” or tasks. Very often fewer means more.

How do horse activities looks like?

Program participants are taking part in many different exercises with horses. Anyone can participate regardless of whether they have ever had contact with these animals. Work is done by creating relationships from the ground and does not provide getting on horses.
We are working in personalized way. That means in every next exercise you can independently choose your goal, experiment, draw conclusion s or ask yourself important for you questions and share this with others. Group consist of 6 to 8 people and there are 2 facilitators and 4 horses in it. Intimate atmosphere allows for intense and engaging work. In case of bigger groups we create smaller subgroups.

KWe use video recording from the exercises. The proposed exercises are designed to develop people’s psycho social skills and work with horses is an experience serving that purpose. That makes training not about horses, but about people. HAE training is one of a kind experience, which is very different from standard training inside training room.

Standard training day we start from getting to know the program, each other and your expectations. Then we move to the first exercise, which consists of observation of a few horses. What features we can observe? Which one is the boss of group? Which horses I like the most and why? Which horse would I identify with? Discussion after the exercise shows differences made in the observations, preferences and evaluation of a horse or situation. At the beginning everyone sees only what they can see. To see more you need to open up to the prospects of others. In next exercise everyone has direct contact with a horse. Every exercise with horses take place from the ground without getting on them. Participants create contact with horse, guide it with string or without it, trying out different behaviors and reading answers. After each exercise there is discussion and exchange of reflections, then group watches recorded video. Seeing the recording from the exercise allows seeing things that earlier went unnoticed and also stimulates reflection and reinforces the memorization of learning outcomes.

Participants are free to participate in chosen exercises, but most of the time everyone is deciding for active participation. Exercises with horses are constructed that way, that are easy and safe for person which this is the first contact with this animal in entire life. Thanks to this, we can concentrate on what is most important in HAE. It’s not competition or perfecting some exercise with horse. Most important goal is to look into yourself, your reactions, reflections from observation others and thereby widening awareness and repertoire of available behaviors.

What personality traits make horses the best teachers of relations?

A horse is a mirror of ourselves, our emotions, intentions and attitudes.

Horses are extremely sensitive to the smallest non-verbal and emotional signals we send. This makes that in intense relationship situation with us they mirror our emotions, intentions and attitudes. Most spectacular example of that is history of famous Russian horse Hans. It was believed that his horse have paranormal abilities. Hans were able to solve math problems and answered by tapping his hoof. This horse was riddle that rankled many people, there was special commission to explain this phenomenon. For many years no one couldn’t do it or prove falsification. It was only after thorough research was discovered that horse answers correctly only when it sees the person that ask question and know correct answer. It turned out that Hans stopped hitting the hoof at the right moment because it reads such expectations from the behavior of the surrounding people. Someone who knew the solution to the problem and at the same time knew how many times the horse had to tap with the hoof, and unconsciously was giving signs if he expected more taps or not.

Horse looks for consistency and authenticity for its own safety

Another characteristic of a horse that is important for the learning process we are interested in is that horses are looking for a sense of security. Being victims of predators they have developed a number of characteristics that inform each other that the environment they are in is safe. The most important of these features is the ability to orient themselves in consistent and unambiguous messages. Messages that at the moment of danger show a good escape route. In the relationship with the horse we are constantly faced with a lack of full mutual understanding. One of the reasons for these communication difficulties is often that the information sent by humans is inconsistent or even contradictory. One of the most important moments in horse learning is where we can learn something important about ourselves. For example that sent by us communicates are not clear and unambiguous. That way we open space for experimentation with our own cohesion and communication clarity.

Horse have ability to be ”Here and now”

Next very important horse ability is being able to be ”Here and now”. In our consort with horse there is no past or future. There is only this exact moment. Thanks to this we can participate in never ending dace of learning mutual relations, with full intensity, with a lot of feedback and a chance to start from scratch all the time.

Horse, as a herd animal, has an innate desire to cooperate

Horses live in flocks of several dozen individuals. Each herd has two leaders responsible for other functions. Leading the herd and being with them all the time is a mare. Usually older, wise, unobtrusive, if not required by the situation. Stallion defends, alarm the herd and cover the “back” in the escape. The pace of escape is not dictated either by the mare nor by the stallion, The pace of escape is dictated by …. fillies. The entire herd adjusts to that pace knowing that they are the most important.
